A Month of Accomplishments

It's been a month since I've blogged anything.  My absence has been due large in part to how busy we have been.  Due in part to priorities and that I update what our family has been up to when I "have the time", HA! Due mostly to the big move we just made and the exhaustion we have all felt by the end of each day.  I do plan to stay more on top of things now that we are "settled" - more on that later - but for now, I want to share our family's accomplishments over the past month :)

Accomplishment #1 Paxton officially moved from his birds class to the beast class at The Little Gym.  They had a little "show" one of the last classes, passed out medals and made each kiddo feel special by giving them a moment.  At first, they were all scared of the attention and clapping and then once they sat and watched a few kids get their medal, then they all wanted to do it.  Yet when it was their turn, they sat on the edge of the steps and just stared :)  I think one kid smiled - it was like they knew it was a prideful moment.  It was precious. We attempted a group picture - I just find it funny!

Accomplishment #2 - We had our first official summer pool day!  The three of us spent an entire afternoon at the pool and Pax man overcame his aversion to the puddle jumper life jacket/vest/floaties (whatever you want to call it) and had a blast at the pool - sweet summertime at its finest!

Accomplishment #3 - Matthew and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary!!!!! (10 years together, crazy) While the festivities weren't a surprise to Matthew, they were to me! My crazy romantic husband planned an entire weekend for the two of us and the three, ahem 4 of us (only fitting) and made a very special anniversary unforgettable.  We started off the celebration with a surprise dinner at Taste of Texas (YUM) and Matthew proposed/presented me with upgraded diamonds and a new setting for my original engagement ring.  He knew my sentimental heart and used the same band on my original ring but left me truly speechless.  It is being worked on by David Gardner but when I get it back I'll post a picture.  All I can say is I don't feel worthy to be sporting such a beautiful ring - but I definitely feel lucky :).  We then headed to a surprise getaway in Galveston where we spent the day at Stewart Beach.  Y'all, we had so much fun.  We were both worried Pax wouldn't like the sand or he would get cranky being in the heat and water all day but it was the opposite.  He absolutely loved it and furthermore, we were able to secure two beach chairs with an umbrella right on the beach - relaxation at its finest.  I NEVER would have thought we were in Galveston.  It was an amazing family filled day with my loves.  We checked into "comfort suites" (so I was told) which turned out to be Moody Gardens resort(sneaky, sneaky) where we got ready to go out to dinner.  We woke up the next morning and I was surprised yet again with a pre-natal massage at the spa at the resort - aka - HEAVEN to a pregnant lady.  We spent the rest of the morning at Palm Beach waterpark with our Pax, went to the dinosaurs alive exhibit and opted for an early dinner due to our worn out toddler :)  It was an amazing weekend - the perfect timing to get away for the weekend to focus just on our family and not everything else that was going on in life.  It's not always about where you go but who you're with.  We had the best weekend just being "US" and was the perfect way to celebrate our life together.

Accomplishment #4 - "Learned" our colors!! One day, it just clicked and now he's got them down! Basic, primary of course - we're not talking silver, gold, magenta, turquoise here :)

Accomplishment #5 - Had our 20 week anatomy ultrasound and Miss Brinlee is doing wonderful! Everything is looking good, she is growing (still measures a little petite - 19 weeks instead of 20) and all her little fingers, toes and heart look great.  We are doing wonderful and cruising along.  I can not believe how fast this pregnancy is going.  We are halfway to meeting her - yikes! I have very little girl things at the moment (except a Halloween costume in case she decides to come a week early - important right?? Ah - I'm such a girl).  Time to start getting things ready for her!
20 weeks

Accomplishment #6 - Celebrated Father's Day!!! Paxton is a very lucky little boy in the sense that God chose the perfect man to be his daddy.  Matthew is an amazing father and sets an example daily of the man I hope Pax will become one day.  Pax also has an amazing Opa and due to the nature of the weekend was able to spend lots of time with these two important men in his life.  My dad lives a life of integrity and honesty every day and the example and influence he has on both me, Matthew and Paxton will make a lasting impact.  We are so blessed that Matthew and my dad aren't just your ordinary father in law - son in law pair, they are best buds and to top of the weekend, they, along with our good friend Jacob - won 1st place after 3 rounds of playoffs in the annual Mustang Golf Course! It was a great weekend celebrating the men we love doing the things they love!

Moving on to Accomplishments # 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 - We put our house up for sale, received an accepted an offer on our house in 5 days (amen and oh crap all at the same time), found a place to live temporarily while Matthew builds our home (almost gave up on this one), packed our house for a storage unit and the new house (HUGE shout out and Thank you to my parents for all of their help fathers day weekend and my dad took off Monday too), managed to move into the new house via movers and our own labor, an awesome babysitter for the day (thanks mom for taking time off work:)) and lots of patience with each other.  We are putting our roots in Montgomery (not far from where we were and ultimately where we have felt we needed and wanted to be all along) and will be in a rent house while Matthew finishes building our new house.  This all happened in less than 30 days and has been nothing short of chaotic at times, extremely exhausting, relieving and exciting all at the same time.

I am excited to say we are content and happy.  You know, I had some deep emotions running wild a few days ago, reminiscing about all that had happened in our "old" house and when I made a trip back to the "old house" on Wednesday - and walked into an empty house I had a realization.  I've always heard the term "a house is not a home" but never experienced that truth until the other day.  The house we just left has some special memories that were made there - lots of firsts and our first year as parents took place within it (if only those walls could talk :)).  At the end of the day though - the house doesn't hold the memories - my pictures and heart do.  Our home is where we are - whether that be in a shack or a fancy house.  I'm thankful to have had that home and I'm excited about what we have to look forward to.  Our home is here where we are as a family and while this temporary housing situation isn't ideal (in the sense we will move again in 8 months) - its obviously all a part of God's plan.  We are excited to be less than 100 yards from the Lake, Matthews work commute is now 10 minutes (not 45) and now we can truly focus on getting prepared to welcome Brinlee.

A month of accomplishments - AKA the longest month ever - has been hard but wonderful.  We are excited that life has slowed down a bit for now and we are getting ready to celebrate lots of July birthdays including Grandpa G's, Opa's, mine and Paxton's!

Our first official Saturday started with a picture of Matthews bass he caught this morning, mani and pedi for me while the boys had daddy Pax time, lunch at Waterpoint, feeding huge fish at the pier, swimming at the pool, dinner at subway and Matthew enjoying some sunset fishing.  It was a great day and a great way to start a new chapter in our life!

Until next time... lots of love!
