Sweet Paxton. It all started October 2015 when he got an ear infection and almost like clockwork got another every 6 weeks from that point forward. A constant cough, allergy medicines, lots of antibiotics and major hearing loss (non permanent) led us to receiving a referral to an ENT. That appointment led us to a surgical center 2 weeks later for ear tubes and adenoidectomy. We were so excited to get our Pax some relief but still nervous about the procedures. He was so incredibly brave and aside from a few bumps along the way it was worth it and recovering is going great!
Ninja turtle, blanket and a little nervous face
We had about a 45 min wait from the time he got his "chill medicine" to the time they actually took him back. He was so, so funny... talking funny, notice the nurse button tucked under the coloring book on him tray... he was obsessed with it and kept wanting to press it - we tried to unplug it and set off a little alarm, whoops! Brinlee helped him pass the time by coloring and hanging out on the bed!
Once they took him back he was gone about 45 minutes and when the doctor came out with the good news of a successful surgery we were also told his ears were absolutely horrible and that this would be a major change for him. We were also told he was awake and not happy so we went straight back to recovery with him. He was very distraught and emotional. Didn't know what or who he wanted ... I climbed in the bed with him to give him comfort and keep him from getting up as he was moving constantly and after about 10 minutes of this he was released and we headed home to get him comfortable. It was not a fun car ride as he was upset most of it but after a little while fell asleep for a bit and woke up much happier.
Correction: we both napped :-)
Much happier boy!
Such a good, cooperative, caring sister during all of this. I was blown away by her compassion and understanding as a 2 year old towards her brother. So sweet.
Recovery was smooth and predictable. All we dealt with we anticipated and were prepared for - with the exception of 2 weeks no strenuous activity = no t ball :(. We are now a week and a half post surgery and He is doing fantastic. I am so grateful for good doctors and modern medicine to help our Pax out! Here's to no more allergy medicine, no more antibiotics and no more ear issues!
