Just when you think you cannot love a human being more than you already do, that person does or says something that makes your heart grow and swell to a size you never thought possible. Our Pax is just a beaming light of love, joy, happiness, a touch of mischief and the reminder of what life is all about. He is 20 months old and I keep wondering when my heart will reach its capacity of love for him and yet still it grows. Its crazy. Just when I think a certain "age" is my favorite, he gets older and the new age is my new favorite. Will this go on forever? :) (this post will, its really long - I haven't blogged in over a month)
One of my most favorite things the past 6 months has been seeing HIS love for us and those closest to him grow. As he forms deeper, genuine relationships with us and others, you can see him learning what love is. He willingly and by his choice gives random hugs or kisses. The joy on his face when he hears Matthews truck pull in the driveway at the end of each day or the smile he flashes me when we catch each others eye across the room. He is learning how to love and I didn't realize how awesome that would be to see and experience. :) I know he has "loved" us since he was born - but its different now, he gets it.
At 20 months he doesn't yet speak in understandable sentences, he strings many random, non sense words together to mimic what a sentence sounds like, which is precious, but impossible to understand. He says close to 50 words - some are easily understood, others aren't :) Cognitively he understands 2 and 3 step instructions - "close the trash can, pick that up and go give it to daddy". He is BIG into "helping". One of his favorite things to do is put wet clothes I hand him from the washer into the dryer, and throwing things away for "me". He is OBSESSED with all things automobiles and sports. Specifically, motorcycles, school buses, trains, golf and baseball. He has an insanely good golf/baseball swing for his age and currently does everything left handed, leading us to believe he will be left handed (of course Matthew is excited about the idea of having a left handed sports player). He has zero interest in potty training - which is fine. We're not going to push an already strong willed child into doing something he is obviously not willing to try :) He won't go to kindergarten in diapers (can you tell I am frustrated a tad by the number of people asking me, is he potty trained?? My response, why do ask?) :) He is a somewhat picky eater - the theory that if they eat all vegetables as an infant they will as a toddler is false in our case. He ate every single vegetable made when on baby food - but will not eat them now. I know he will get there - I just keep reminding myself that he is a toddler. They deliberately do the opposite of what you ask at this age :) Its fun. He is still a string bean... long and lean. 98%ile for height - lucky. His car seat is forward facing and woo hoo has life changed for the better :) He has always loved being in the car, but now that he faces forward we can talk and interact a lot more, which makes for fun car rides and dance parties. Pax can be very strong willed but I am thankful. Trust me there are days that make this quality one I don't love - but he has great focus, determination and "passion" about many things. Qualities a parent would only hope their child would continue to have and apply in their life. He says "mom" to get the attention of anyone. If you don't answer him right away he will literally say, "mom, mom, mom, mom, mom..." until you answer him. He recently learned how to jump, a skill he has wanted to do for a while and runs faster than I can :).
To sum up life right now - it's just fun! Challenging at times, oh yes. Perfect? Far from it. But, just when you think something can't get any better - it does. We are looking forward to what God has in store for us.
Pax and I went on a date to "touch a truck" here in The Woodlands - it was a blast. He was able to get up close and personal to all his favorite trucks.
Of course, watching daddy drive was his favorite :)
Paxtons friend Elise came over to play, they are a month a part and had a blast together!
Okay, so he does like baby carrots and ranch!
He brushes his teeth every day - he pretends to put on toothpaste :)
My parents and and the 3 of us went to the rodeo together and had a great time! If Pax were 2 inches taller he would have been able to ride all of the little kid rides - next year :)
The ONE ride he was tall enough for
This kid loves jelly beans!
Matthew and I got to have a George Strait Rodeo date. We had a blast spending the day together and loved the concert. It was much needed quality time and a memory we will cherish :)
The King and Queen of winning large stuffed animals while spending less than 10 dollars. We have no need for them so we stood and watched kids play the game we won them on and if they didn't win, we gave them one of ours. It was fun!
Skyride - little scary but fun!
Until Next time... lots of love!
