So I have to cheat a little on this post. Its actually April 17, 2016 today. I have had this particular blog post saved since Fathers Day last year and I am just now getting to it.
Little did I know this fathers day was going to be the last one with Grandpa. It's kind of crazy to think back on the year and how so many of our memories with him didn't seem final. I will always treasure these pictures because of what they represent and who they are of.
Since I was a little girl we would go to Black Eyed Pea on occasion at the intersection of 1960 and Jones Road. It was always one of Grandpas favorites so naturally when we asked him where he would like to go for Fathers Day dinner he said "Black Eyed Pea". We said "sure" and the plans were made. At this point - Grandpa was definitely having an increasingly difficult time getting around because of his oxygen levels. I admire him so much for sucking it up and coming to dinner despite not feeling 100%.
There are some pretty important men in our family to celebrate on Fathers Day and I will cherish the memory of this night with those men we hold so dear. Talk about a legacy of fathers. Not only is my grandpa an amazing father but he taught my dad how to be a father who then shaped for me the kind of father I hoped to find for my future children. My moms Dad is also an amazing father and through his compassion, tenderness and love of his family my mom turned into the woman she is and he influenced her choice of marrying a man like my dad. If only my Grandpa Wise, Matthew's Dad and grandpa could have been there too - what an amazing group of men that would be. I wish so badly I could have met Matthews dad. These are the holidays that have moments of sadness when we are reminded of them not being with us. While my dad would never replace Matthews own father - their relationship is so very special. I am so thankful that they are the best of friends and have one another to lean on. I pray that all these men who have influenced our parents and us will influence both Paxton and Brinlee in ways that will shape their choices in relationships and a spouse one day.
Daddy and Daughter - PURE LOVE
Father/Son
Love these men!
4 generations strong... may be not blood related but family no doubt - what a treasure this picture is.
The whole crew
Our kids are still so little they don't understand or realize just how incredibly lucky they are to have Matthew as their dad. He is fun, firm, tender hearted, spontaneous and oh so loving. He is the best!
My dad and I. Never did I realize how amazing of a dad he was until I realized how difficult being a good Mom is. He is one of a kind. Being an Opa for him has been so natural and he is everything he was to me and more as a kid towards my children. Love you, Dad!
